What is HIPAA?

HIPAA is an acronym for Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. It is a government regulation dealing with the information obtained from patients or about patients in medical related facilities, including doctor's offices, hospitals and insurance companies. It requires that  practices are in compliance with handling private patient information. For smaller practices, this can be overwhelming dealing with legal system and costs in doing so.
